Thursdays Thoughts - Loneliness vs Solitude
Well I'm really chuffed to share with you guys this video! It's one that my good friend Toby Osborn has crafted with me around something I wrote 3 years back when struggling with loneliness. Toby and I went to Reality together (back in its glory days), and it's been amazing to watch him flourish in his talent for making videos, as they often broadcast God's good news in compelling and contemporary ways. He is one fantastic example of what can happen when you give your life and dreams to God in your youth.
A word about the words: I wrote the script to this video as a journal entry whilst sitting with the struggle of loneliness. Something I'm sure all too many of us are battling with whilst our social lives are under lock down. At the time of writing, I was living on my own, in a foreign country plus culture, and counting down the days to come home. But in the midst of those eerily quiet times, that always crept back up on me, God was teaching me the meaning of 1 Corinthians 6:19, 'Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God'.
It was by reaching out to God in the pining for intimacy that he brought me this revelation through that scripture: That he simply will not leave me, as his spirit dwells within me, and therefore I will never truly be lonely. This began in me the joy of solitude - A joy that's here to stay. My prayer is that this video would usher you into the same joy of this truth.
